University is a lot of fun. You spend your days forming friendships, appreciating your new-found freedom and studying a course on subjects in which you really enjoy.

However, with it being exam season, we thought it might be handy to pull together some top tips on how you can study like a pro.

Motivational Top Tips

Phones Away

We are all guilty of it; we pick up our phones for 5 minutes, and 45 minutes later we are reading about what our mum’s friend’s nephew has had for tea.

With statistics recently revealing that we spend on average 2 hours a day scrolling through our various social media platforms, it is clear to see how our mobile phone could become a distraction when studying.

There is nothing wrong with taking a break to check your Facebook timeline, but don’t let your phone become too much of a distraction.

Create a Plan

A way of accurately assessing how much/little time you have before your deadlines is to create a detailed plan.

Make a list to study effectively

This comes down to what type of learner you are.

Perhaps you learn best visually and would benefit from a clear calendar with all of your deadlines mapped out.

On the other hand, you may be more of an auditory learner, and know that you are going to have to read your notes aloud to yourself in a quiet space.

Planning around the best ways that you learn can provide the best chances of success.

Reward Yourself

Everyone likes to reward themselves. Whether it’s the promise of a new pair of shoes, a pound in a jar for every hour that you study, or even the promise of a night off with a huge chocolate bar in front of the TV, setting attainable goals with exciting rewards motivates you to really try your hardest.

Important Points to Remember

  • You will never regret a study session once it’s over.
  • Exam season is twice a year, and only lasts a couple of weeks – it is not forever! Most of us are at university for three years. That equates to 12 weeks (out of 156) that you really need to apply yourself. You will be proud afterwards, we promise!
  • Knowing that you have given yourself every chance of potential success will release a sense of pride whatever the outcome.

Try to make the most of your time – Take our advice and begin your journey to success.
