1. Visit the Amazing Pubs and Bars

Lancaster is home to many sought-after bars and pubs that you’ll be able to enjoy with all of your friends. Whether you’re looking for more a more relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy first-class cocktails, or you want a place where you can get loud while watching your favourite sports, Lancaster has everything you could possibly need.

2. Join Societies

Joining clubs and societies allows you to meet new people who share the same interests and passions as you – and experience university in a completely different way than just going from class to room every single day. Many societies allow you to explore Lancaster and other locations around it as well. This is a great way of getting to know places like Manchester, the Lake District, Preston, Morecambe, etc.

3. Explore the Castle

You can explore the history of this monument and visit the cells that once held the Pendle Witches. Here, you can even visit one of the oldest functioning courts of law, operating inside the castle.

If the night scene is something you enjoy while you’re studying at Lancaster, the student’s union provides free buses on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, so that you can come and go safely.

6. Support the University

There’ a very special event you can’t miss while at University: the Roses Tournament. Held annually since 1965, students from both Lancaster and York universities compete in a varsity event that occurs either at one uni or the other. This year, the site for this ancient rivalry is Lancaster yet again, but next year you can’t miss out on the opportunity to visit York and go support your university!

Roses will begin on the 28th of April.

7. Explore the Canal

If you’re looking for a bit of contact with nature, Lancaster has many places you can visit, from the surrounding fields to the canal. Spending all of your time in your room won’t do, so go for walks on the Lancaster canal and enjoy the beautiful greenery surrounding it.
